About this work

Description

On corals, corallines etc.: a letter to Mr. Collison, 12 May 1752. Author's holograph MS: with an inserted extract from Robert Boyle's 'Formes and qualities' concerning coral, written by Mr. Peirson, 4 May 1761, with a note 'Read at the Royal Society 7 May 1761' by Stukeley. The second leaf contains a pen-drawing of a coral branch by Stukeley, entitled 'The species of coralline exhibited at the Royal Society, May 14 1752, Mrs. Warens Southamton Row.' The next 4 ff, which are loose, contain an account of this specimen. 'Mr. Collison' is probably Peter Collinson [1694-1768], F.R.S., naturalist and antiquary [see the Dictionary of National Biography]. Produced in Stamford.
