About this work

Also known as

Transgender health science and you

Description

"As a team of trans and queer researchers, we must admit: science has historically been harmful and inaccessible to our communities. This zine aims to 1) call out the science that oppresses us 2) take a look at what research actually benefits us 3) discuss how to participate in research as a form of activism. Join us for this overview of the field of transgender health science and tips on how to access trans health research. Also included in this zine are: explanations of the usefulness of research; tips on how to find and read research articles; preliminary results from UW-Madison & Wisconsin Transgender Health Coalition's Needs Assessment of Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Youth in Wisconsin; art, poetry, and activities by trans activists."--[Page 1]

"Content warning: strong language, discussion of transgender health disparities, harmful science, doctors, outdated medical language, mentions of violence."--From cover.

Notes

Title from cover.
"A zine produced by Wisconsin Transgender Health Coalition & NONBINARY Zine. This zine is intended for a trans and nonbinary audience. In respect to a grant project being performed by the Wisconsin Transgender Health Coalition and University Wisconin-Madision for trans youth, it specifically targets youth ages 12-22 in rural/urban areas of Wisconsin. The zine is still super useful for all folks unfamiliar with the field, though we would have written very differently had it been for an older audience/based in California because our access to information, QTPOC resources, and conversations on the field in general are vastly more abundant than what currently exists in the state of Wisconsin."--From Brown Recluse Zine Distro's website.
