    EDITOR'S PEEFACE. The appearance of a sixth German edition, and the demand for a revised edition of the American translation, seem to show that the high estimate formed of this work was reasonable. In the present edition some notes have been omitted, others changed, and some new ones added. For most of the new notes in the section on Nervous Diseases I have to thank Dr. Knapp, one of the translators.
