This print shows part of the "Roman" bath-house in Strand Lane, near the Embankment. It was probably built in the seventeenth century, using some Roman antiquities imported by the Earl of Arundel

Lettering

Position of the big marble slabs ; there exists on the edge of the bath a big marble slab which gives an ideal of its original appearance. This slab indicates the probable level of the Roman paving Lettering continues: East end ; concrete covering extending round foot of bath ; large marble slab projecting 9 inches beneath modern floor ; probable level of Roman paving ; Roman brickwork exposed ; Essex's marble slabs
