About this work

Description

In the text, Lavater writes that this portrait is "more pleasing [than the one shown on frame no. 9459L], better calculated to inspire love". She has "a great fund of good sense, and a fidelity not to be shaken ... The attitude here is that of attentive love, superior to design and intrigue, and which nothing can direct from its attachment"
