Description

Hyperkeratosis of the hand. Hyperkeratosis describes a thickening of the outer layer of the skin caused by abnormally increased amounts of the protein keratin which normally functions to protect the skin. The skin as illustrated in this image can become very dry, scaly and often crusting of the skin can be seen, in some cases being quite painful.
