    A C UR Predecejjbrs had a juft Regard both to their own Honour and the Publick Advantage, when they firfi undertook to publifb a Difpenfatory ; a Work not lefs laborious, than at that time neceffary: For when by a peculiar Infiance of. Royal Good- nefs, it was committed to them to prefide over, and adjuji the Rides of Practice in Medicine, not only in this City, but throughout the whole Kingdom ; they rightly judged they fhmid be wanting to themfelves as well as to their Patients, in any Neglebt to afcertain and con- fiitute Laws for the Compofition of Medi¬ cine, and efiablifh a Standard, to which all jhould be equally obliged to conform. TIois Work, which they earnejily fei about, was accoMplifloed with equal Induftry ; and in the laft Century their Difpenfatory paffed through many Editions, with Enlargements and Emendations, by the Fellows of the Col¬ iege.
