About this work

Description

Type 1 ganglion cell in the retina of a hamster. Different types of ganglion cells carry different types of visual information. This nerve cell has been labelled by injecting it with the fluorescent dye lucifer yellow. The cell body is in the centre and contains the nucleus. This is surrounded by many projecting dendrites and one long axon. Ganglion cell axons make up the optic nerve and carry the signals from the retina to the brain.
