Light through the clouds.

Follows a young womans transition from schoolgirl to mental nurse as she trains at The Retreat, York, one of Britain's first teaching mental hospitals. The nurse's role is shown predominantly as one of comforting patients. Insulin coma therapy is shown, with the nurse preparing and reassuring the patient. The film gives a glimpse of most aspects of a trainee nurse's life, on and off duty, and emphasises the good relationships that exist at The Retreat between nurses and patients. Roles are played by the hospital's staff and the story is told by a narration over the action.
