About this work
Description
This is a die-cut card in the shape of a yellow and green parrot with red back and wings. It was soaked in D.D.T. insecticide with the intention of killing flies inside the house and was manufactured by James Cox & Co. at the D.D.T. Works, 368, Northolt Road, South Harrow, Middlesex, probably in the 1930s. This would have looked bright and cheerful hung in a room, a step up from messy fly paper which was commonly used at the time. There is a similar printing of this [EPH/176/18] lacking the text which is printed over the tailfeathers of the parrot. Presumably a later one.
