Aleks Krotoski talks about the concept of abandonment, and explores why it is hard to leave a place. She speaks to author, Marie Mutsuki Mockett about her experience of communicating with her family in Japan during the earthquake and Tsunami of 2011. About 25 miles from where her family lives in Tohoku, there was threat of a nuclear reactor going off, therefore evacuation orders were promptly sent. Aleks Krotoski speaks to the few people who stayed behind about their experiences of the abandoned town. Professor Alastair Bonnett talks about the relationship of place and human love of nature, and place attachment even when there is no comfort or even human life. He talks about the idea of abandoned places as moral landscapes in a ‘post-religion era’. Aleks Krotoski talks about and speaks to computer programmer, Andrew Kirmse about online gaming and the concept of abandoning virtual Medieval cities and the creation of new cities. Aleks Krotoski discusses the idea of what happens when online places are abandoned.
