Description
Thyateira (also Thyatira), the former name of the later Turkish city of Akhisar ("White castle"). It lies in the far west of Turkey, south of Istanbul and almost due east of Athens. In the engraving, the city of Thyatira is seen from a hill. A convoy of camels goes towards to the city. Yunt mountain is seen in the background

The lettering refers to the Book of Revelation 2: 18, "And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass". The church at Thyateira was one of the seven churches to which the Book of Revelation was addressed
