Infantile Mortality. There were 167 deaths (98 males and 69 females) of infants under one year of age registered in the Borough. After correction for inward (4) and outward (57) transferable deaths, the net total of infant deaths is 114 (67 males and 47 females), an increase of 4 on the total for 1942. Of the 114 deaths, 12 were those of illegitimate children, and 42 occurred in infants under 4 weeks old, equivalent to a neo-natal mortality of 22-76 per thousand births.
