Description
Colour-enhanced transmission electron micrograph showing an
occluded capillary in the sclera of a patient with operation-induced glaucoma. The lumen of this
vessel is largely obliterated. The nuclei can be seen in two of the endothelial cells making up the
vessel wall. Beneath the endothelium is the prominent basal lamina and then the pericytes which in turn are surrounded by the perivascular
matrix. This matrix contains collagen fibrils and cell debris. The capillary is approximately 10 microns in diameter.
