About this work

Description

The majority of people in women's jails and prisons are mothers. Twelve women share their stories of pregnancy and parenting from behind bars, working as state firefighters, surviving as trans women in men’s prisons, and mourning a friend's suicide while in solitary confinement.

"Tenacious is a zine of art and writings by women incarcerated across the United States. Through essays, articles, poetry and drawing, each woman shares aspects of life behind bars, ranging from medical care (or lack of care), trying to get an education while in prison, sexual harassment by prison staff and general prison conditions, pregnancy and parenting in prison. Tenacious covers subjects like medical care (or lack of care), trying to get an education while in prison, sexual harassment by prison staff and general prison conditions, pregnancy and parenting behind bars."--From POC Zine Project. https://poczineproject.tumblr.com/tenaciouszine
