Description
Martin Folkes was a mathematician and antiquarian. He was president of the Royal Society (in succession to Sir Hans Sloane) from 1741 to 1753, and was a vice-president of the Foundling Hospital
Folkes sits in the chair of the President of the Royal Society, inscribed with its motto Nullius in verba, and points to a box containing the statutes of the society
