Documentation relating to the 1979 symposium in Edinburgh celebrating Marthe Vogt's 50 years in pharmacology. This includes letters between members of the planning committee, programme, dinner menu, accounts and group photograph (annotated with names), 1979.

Biographical note

Christopher Bell was born in Melborne in 1941, the son of artists. After studying Zoology at the University of Melbourne, Bell was awarded a National Heart Foundation Overseas Research Fellowship to work in the UK. He worked with Marthe Vogt at the Institute of Animal Research in Babraham, and John Vane at the Royal College of Surgeons. This work led to him being awarded the inaugural Sandoz Prize in 1972.

At the end of the Fellowship Bell returned to Australia, where he joined the department of physiology at the University of Melbourne. He remained at the university until 1995, publishing numerous scientific articles and books, including one aimed at schoolchildren.

In 1995 Bell joined the staff of Trinity College, Dublin as Professor of Physiology. In 2006 he became Chair of the department. He retired in 2007 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
