Michael Moore investigates healthcare in the US, the only country in the Western world without free universal healthcare. This brilliant documentary is both hilarious, terrifying and frequently tragic as we hear first-hand accounts not just from those without healthcare but from the majority of Americans who do have healthcare. The corruption in the health insurance industry is exposed by people who work within it and those who have been let down by it. Footage of US presidents from Nixon to Bush are shown and their role in shaping healthcare in the US today is explained. Moore visits Canada to review socialised healthcare there and he spends a long time in the UK at Hammersmith Hospital meeting patients and GPs and talking to Tony Benn about the origins of the NHS. He also looks at the French health service including S.O.S. medicin, the emergency home-visiting service. Moore discovers that the only place the US provides free medical care is at Guantanamo Bay where Iraqi prisoners are held, so he takes a boat-load of patients suffering under the US system to visit the centre - ironically 3 of them are 9-11 medical workers. They are not allowed access so visit nearby Cuba, the Havana Hospital, where they receive more health assistance for free than they have had in the US for thousands of dollars.
