Carrying the battering ram from left to right are Lord John Russell, Lord Morpeth, Thomas Spring-Rice, Lord Lansdowne, Lord Melbourne, Lord Duncannon, Lord Holland, Lord Glenelg and Lord Cottenham. Daniel O'Connell was opposed to the existence of the House of Lords
