Written in pencil: Arrangement for heating bath water discovered in an ancient building in Rome during demolition in 1932 ; P.J-S. Rome 1933 Written in pencil on verso: Discovered in a wall of an ancient house during demolition to make way for the Via Imperia, between the Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum in 1932. The wall was of Roman construction and was part of an ancient Roman building - probably a private house or a bathing annex Further lettering within the print: cold water ; mantle_tree ; fire ; warm water ; bath ; circulation of smoke and warmth ; circulation of water
