Description
Leaflet advertising Hudson's Dry Soap detergent. The front is a colour illustration of a rural coastal scene featuring the sea, cliffs, boats, and a village. A woman is washing clothes in a tub while talking to a fisherman and another woman. Laundry is hung on the side of a boat to dry. On the reverse is an A-Z of the various ways in which the soap can be used for cleaning.

Biographical note
Robert Spear Hudson (d.1884) invented the first dry soap powder, "Hudson's Dry Soap" in 1837 in his small pharmacy in West Bromwich, England, moving to Liverpool in the 1880s. He advertised extensively, first locally and then nationally, as his business and use of his products grew. The firm was taken over by Lever Brothers Ltd. (now part of Unilever) in 1908.
