About this work

Description

Fanny George, Fanny George, spinster, a person of unsound mind: administration of her affairs, mainly following her death intestate in April 1842.

Miss George was a "Chancery lunatic" even though her background appears to have been fairly humble. John Parnell was the named "Committee of [her] person and estate", who had placed her under the care of Mr Parkin, "a medical gentleman".

Her father, William George, to whom administration of the estate was granted, is described as a labourer, and makes his cross rather than signing his name; two of her brothers were also labourers, but another, George George, was the publican of the Three Horse Shoes at Grendon Underwood, Bucks. Fanny George's own personal estate amounted to £3168/8/4d, a substantial sum.
