Biographical note

The provenance of this volume is uncertain, but a few details suggest an origin in the north of England or the north-east Midlands: the section of the book given over to arithmetic is noted as belonging to W. Ogdon of Wirksworth, Derbyshire (whose handwriting suggests that he or she is a child) whilst among the recipes cited is one attributed to a Mr. Faure of Leeds. The ownership inscription from W. Ogdon is dated 1878.
