Description
The fourth in a 10-part series investigating diseases from around the globe. Each programme features a single disease and looks at attempts to develop treatments that are effective and affordable to the world's poor who make up the majority of the victims. This part features Chagas Disease. In South America 16,000,000 people are infected with the parasite and 4,000,000 of these will die young. We see the work of Medicins Sans Frontiers to provide drug treatment to those in remote villages in Bolivia. Victoria Hale, a pharmaceutical scientist, works for the Institute for One World Health and is developing a new drug to treat the condition.
