About this work
Description
Is scientific research in genetics racing ahead of our ability to deal with the problems and choices which follow? The programme looks at three issues arising from this: -- (1) the potential elimination of disability, with specific reference to achondroplasia; -- (2) the problem of whether or how to act if a gene for criminal behaviour should be discovered; -- (3) an individual's rights (if any) over their own genetic material, with specific reference to the U.S. case in which John Moore sued his doctor for using his genetic material for his own research without Mr. Moore's consent. Contributors include Prof. Robert Winston (Hammersmith Hospital) and Prof. Peter Goodfellow (University of Cambridge).
