About this work
Description
In the TV drama 'Silent Witness', forensic pathologists are portrayed as painstaking professionals whose autopsies on the victims of suspicious death leave no stone unturned. But how reliable are their real-life counterparts? Professionals claim there is a crisis in the present system of Home Office pathology. The Miscarriage of Justice Organization (MoJO) claims inadequate pathology evidence is involved in 70% of its caseload. The programme re-examines the evidence from several cases, including the recent death of Stuart Lubbock, who was found dead in Michael Barrymore's swimming pool. As the Home Office reviews the way forensic pathology is organised in England and Wales, are innocent people being sent to prison because of bungled autopsies.
