About this work
Description
Laura Williams was 18 when she gave birth to conjoined twins, Hope and Faith. The programme joins Laura and her husband Aled when the girls are 3 days old and in Great Ormond Street Hospital. The babies have many shared organs but separate hearts; they need to be separated. As Hope grows unwell the operation is brought forwards - the surgery itself is not shown in great detail. Unfortunately Hope is too weak and does not survive the surgery. Faith's life still hangs in the balance with increased problems with her liver and kidneys and she died on Christmas morning, one month after she was born. The programme presents not so much an insight into surgery on conjoined twins so much as a window onto how such a young couple deals with a medical tragedy such as this.
