About this work
Also known as
To Janet, a son?
Description
This extremely enjoyable dramatic reconstruction demonstrates through the recollections of an expectant mother, the preparation and treatment she received for the birth of her first child. We see her examined by her family GP, her first visit to the ante-natal clinic and the series of talks she attended. Although this film presents a rather idealised view of childbirth such as 4-star medical treatment including showers, gentle sedatives, the constant attendance of two midwives and seemingly little pain, the 1960s slant on pregnancy and childbirth makes highly interesting and historically informative viewing. There are two actual childbirths included in the footage.
