Description

The DNA probe is from a hybrid (CJ9q) which contain fragments of human chromosomes within hamster cells (ie human/hamster hybrid). Hamster cells containing only the long arm of chromosome 9 were irradiated to fragment the hybrids (human/hamster), which were used as probes. The probs were hybridised onto normal human metaphase spreads to confirm that the human component was indeed chromosome 9 and to ascertain what chromosome region the human fragments came from. In this particular case, the metaphase spread is from a human cell line which has a translocation between chromosome 9 and chromosome 22 and shows hybridisation onto 9q region 22-34 (on normal and derivative chromosome 9) and on the derivative chromosome 22 (small chromosome) which has
