About this work
Description
Is the hearing of voices too rigidly defined as a symptom of psychosis? This question is discussed by Dr. Adrianne Reveley (Maudsley Hospital), Dr. Cosmo Hallstrom (Charing Cross Hospital), Dr. Marius Romme (University of Limburg), Dr. Phil Thomas (University of Wales), and a number of patients. Dr. Romme argues that "hearing voices" should not be suppressed with medication. He believes that patients should be helped to come to terms with their "voices" and encouraged, where possible, to lead otherwise normal lives. He advocates group support, as violence is more likely to occur when a patient tries to deal alone with the experience.
