Sir,—Viscount Palmerston having received from the Lord Jus- tice Clerk a report on the case of George Collison, a convict under sentence of death in the gaol at Edinburgh, in whose behalf you have interested yourself, I am directed to acquaint you, that, under all the circumstances, his Lordship will feel himself warranted in advising her Majesty to grant the prisoner a pardon on condition of transportation for life.
