Description
Photomacrograph of the stinger on a hornfaced bee (Osmia cornifrons). Hornfaced bees are solitary bees native to Japan but have been introduced in other parts of the world such as in North America to help pollinate fruit trees. They are very docile and in contrast to other bees and wasps, rarely use their stinger. If they do their sting is mild. The stinger shown here is 400 micrometres long.
