About this work
Description
Examines stage hypnosis, hypnotherapy and the use of hypnosis in surgery in an attempt to discover whether and, if so, how hypnosis works. Research by Dr. John Gruzelier (Charing Cross Hospital) shows, by brain scans, that changes take place in the brain under hypnotism and there are film clips of leg surgery being carried out on a hypnotised subject by Dr. Angel Escudiros (Spain), and also of nose surgery under hypnosis. However, the final experiment conducted for the programme finds that the existence of hypnotic power is dubious and that much depends on the willingness of the subject to cooperate with the hypnotist. The question of the existence of hypnotic power remains unresolved.
