About this work

Description

The first in a three-part series following the journeys of three individuals diagnosed with cancer. The programme begins by showing a number of people receiving their initial diagnosis from their hospital consultant and throughout, people having chemotherapy are shown. 55-year-old Dominic has breast cancer, still relatively rare in men, and is terrified of anaesthetics so has his left breast removed under a local anaesthetic. 48-year-old Sally, a mother of five, has suffered from Non-Hodgkin lymphoma for over five years and the only hope of a cure for her is a donation of stem cells - her journey through this process is shown. Yvette has been battling breast cancer for twenty years, has undergone a double mastectomy and has been in remission until recent scans show an increase in the spread of cancer cells and she is offered a new drug treatment which is still on trial but which gives her very good initial results.
