Lettering

Engraved after the original picture in the possession of James Connell Esq., to whom this plate is inscrib'd by his oblig'd humble serv.t, W. Byrne. Painted by F. Zuccarelli. The figures by F. Bartolozi. Engraved by Will.m Byrne Bears coat of arms with motto Victor in arduis. The arms are those of the O'Connells of Derrynane House, County Kerry (the family of Daniel O'Connell, the Liberator), but possibly of other Connells, O'Connells or M'Connels as well. This one may be the James Connell or James O'Connell ("Feu Monsieur James OConnell, gentilhomme anglais") whose paintings were sold at auction after his death by J.B. Morren, Brussels, 18 April 1811. The sale included several landscape paintings, none of them attributed to Zuccarelli, though one was described as "Un paysage, avec figures et animaux, par un bon maître". He was said to be a landowner in Glastonbury and to have died ca. 1809
