About this work

Description

This documentary asks if we are on the verge of creating a super human, an amalgamation of biology and technology, through which we can change the nature of what it is to be human forever. This moment is known among scientists as the 'singularity.' Experts from the fields of biology, science and technology give their opinions about this future possibility, but many remain sceptical and fearful of the interface between biology and technology becoming too fused. John Chapin has already created a remote controlled rat - a real rat who can be controlled by a computer. Miguel Nicolelis has been decoding the mind of a monkey with electrodes dropped into its brain which he is attempting to translate into the movement of a mechanical arm. Eric Ramsey is a teenager trapped in a 'locked in' state following a car accident - Philip Kennedy has linked his mind to a computer in an attempt to translate his thoughts into words spoken by the computer. We hear the story of the una-bomber, a man who wanted to derail technology, and Seth Lloyd who is attempting to translate the sounds of atoms.
