Advertising card for Tarrant's Seltzer Aperient (about 1880?). The aperient was sold as a bottle of white powder which produced 30 - 40 glasses of "foaming, sparkling Seltzer" when added to water to which was supposed to cure "headaches, constipation, indigestion and dyspepsia". This one shows a woman in a long, white nightdress with blue bows down the front holding her left hand to her bandaged head, the right hand rests on an empty table, an unmade bed behind her, an open trunk with a jumble of clothing in it on the floor and a heavy red curtain tied back by a yellow cord behind that.
