She appears here with the bowl of ointment she used to anoint Jesus at the feast at the house of the Pharisee (Matthew 26.6-13; Mark 14.3-9; Luke 7.36-50; John 12.1-8). She is shown with unkempt hair, a sign here of having left behind the world of bodily concerns
