About this work
Description
"This thesis gives an account of ten years work in Brent with has utilised community development methods to initiate a range of health education and counselling initiatives for sickle cell disorders. As a background the social, political and medical experiences in the United states of America are described in an attempt to analyse the role of institutional racism and the failure of conventional health planning systems to provide black and ethnic groups with relevant services. The major part of the thesis describes a systematic programme of local development work in Brent, which was conducted on the basis of collaboration between the local voluntary organisation and the local health authority."--From Abstract, page 2.
