Giardiasis: Giardia lamblia cyst

Giardia lamblia cyst This is a high power view of a cyst in a faecal smear. The two nuclei are clearly seen at the anterior end of the organism. Each nucleus consists of a central ring of chromatin and a central karyosome. The double axoneme is faintly visible as a dark linear structure which runs posteriorly from the angle between the nuclei. The rest of the picture is filled with faecal debris.
