    appointment. He was also elected Chairman of the General Purposes & Finance Committee, and we have already learned to rely on his business experience and his wise and con¬ scientious advice. Major Carleton Salkeld, formerly a Trustee, and one of vour Vice-Presidents, and Committee member!for many years, resigned in the early part of the year on going to live in London, but was able to resume membership again at a later date. We regret to hear he has recently been seriously ill and trust his recovery will be early and complete. Dr. Richard Connell has also consented to serve on the Committee of Management, and we welcome this continuation of his long association. Other recent additions to the Committee are Mrs. Vincent Waddell, Miss Dorothy Carr and Canon W. j. Phvthian- Adams. We welcome them to what we feel sure will be a long and fruitful association with Infirmary affairs. 8. Medical Staff Changes and Appointments. The increased work has inevitably imposed a great deal more strain on the medical and nursing staffs, to whose loyalty and devotion our thanks are both due and freely accorded. To relieve the pressure and to provide new services some augmentation of the Visiting Specialist Staff has been planned and in some departments has already been achieved. There have, however,been some very serious losses, in the lamentable death of Mr. Ian M. Davidson, and in the retirements of Dr. A. I. Shepheard-Walwyn and Dr. Richard Connell. The loss of Mr. Davidson, on the threshold of a surgical career so full of promise was a severe blow to the Infirmary, and the Com¬ mittee of Management extends its heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Davidson and her daughter. Dr. Shepheard-Walwyn resigned his appointment as Honorary Physician after thirty years service on the staff of the Infirmary. He has been elected Honorary Consulting Physician. Dr. Connell resigned his appointment as Honorary Radiologist after twenty-five years service. He lias been elected Honorary Consulting Radiologist.
