    It will be evident from what has been stated that while a good deal of preparatory work has been completed, and some results achieved, much more remains to be done. The present national and world conditions make rapid progress impossible, but no effort will be spared to expedite the early provision of what is needed. 7. Changes in the Committee of Management. The Committee of Management has seen a number of changes during the year. It suffered serious loss by the deaths of Miss E. L. Dodd and Mr. J. Long in 1946, and of Mrs. G. W. Stead in the first few days of 1947. Mrs. Stead had been a member since 1910, with a break due to illness between 1922 and 1936. She had always been a most generous bene¬ factress of the Infirmary, and her support and interest will be greatly missed. Mr. Long had been a member of the Com¬ mittee since 1921, and apart from recent ill-health, regularly attended meetings. He was particularly associated with the Hospital Sunday & Saturday Fund Committee. Miss Dodd had been a member of the Committee since 1924, and always took a great interest in the welfare of patients, the Com¬ mittee deeply regrets the passing of these old friends. Colonel Ronald N. Carr, Chairman since 1942, was com¬ pelled to vacate this office on account of ill-health, and has since to our great regret, felt obliged also to resign from the Committee. We wish to record our warm appreciation of his able services to the Infirmary, and to express the hope that with an improvement in his health and some lightening of his business responsibilities he may be able to resume an active part in the guidance of our affairs at a later date. We are glad that in the office of a Vice-President a strong link with the Infirmary still remains. Mr. T. B. Harston accepted the office of Chairman in place of Colonel Carr, having served as a member of the Committee since 1942. Mr. J. W. Whipp, Honorary Treasurer since 1939, also resigned on account of ill-health, and Mr. A. A. Rushforth who had undertaken the responsibilities of this office during Mr. Whipp’s illness, was subsequently confirmed in this
