Bible. N.T. Matthew 27.34-50; Mark 15.24-37; Luke 23.33-45; John 19.18-34. The cross is flanked by the Virgin Mary, with her hands clasped in prayer, and the rear end of a horse. A soldier sits on the horse. A small decorative urn or jar rests at the bottom of the cross; further up, someone is hugging the trunk of the cross. The crowd is mostly comprised of soldiers and devout women. Above the two other crucified men float an angel and a devil respectively

The intricate border shows cherubs and gargoyles among the pillars and ferns. Plants turn into the claws of beasts. At the top the same scene is repeated twice: a small cherub sits atop another, who rests upon his elbows
