He played a pivotal role in Zürn's life, it was when she came to Paris to live with him that she first encountered Henri Michaux, whose resemblance to a fantasy figure of her childhood, "The man of jasmine", was so intense that it gradually undermined her mental stability. The house of illnesses, although composed shortly after this meeting, during a fever caused by jaudice, is a work of the imagination, albeit one that seems to predict all too accurately her subsequent fate.
