About this work
Description
A film made by the University of Birmingham Television Unit by the Association of University Teachers of Psychiatry. The programme is a combination of re-enacted case studies with two psychiatrists showing how they would go about treating a mute and stuporose patient - in between the re-enactment, they speak directly to the camera about what they are doing. In the first part they discuss a patient who has presented as mute at a hospital A&E department, then go on to examine her and make an initial assessment. In the second part they pull their original assessment to pieces and re-assess their findings.

Notes
Graves Medical Audiovisual Library was founded by husband and wife team Drs John and Valerie Graves in 1957 as an educational activity of the College of General Practitioners (from 1972 the Royal College of General Practitioners). It soon became the premier organisation supplying audiovisual materials for all the medical and paramedical professions in the UK. Initially it was mainly associated with tape-slide programmes, but by the mid-1980s video programmes also became a major medium.
