About this work

Description

This episode focuses on acute pain. Pain is perceived by the brain, even though the cause is usually in another part of the body. Professor Michael Nash, a Clinical Psychologist at the University of Tennessee describes the 'Gate' theory of pain which was established in 1965. He compares the way in which the amount one suffers while feeling pain differs according to the context in which it is experienced. [More detailed synopsis available from MFAC].
