About this work
Description
"Look, I'm wearing all the colours is an intimate visual exploration of a relationship lived with invisible illness as a third person. It explores my journey as both husband and photographer trying to understand my wife’s illness, but ultimately it is love letter to my wife. It was made using photographs taken over a 13 year period. Taking these photographs allowed me to look back and reflect on our life within and around Zara’s conditions, and captures how I cope with them as a husband. The sequencing of the book takes the reader into our world and through the rollercoaster of emotions using a range of photographic approaches, including portraits, still life and snapshots. I started photographing Zara when we first met. Images of nights out, eating and kissing were soon joined by images of flare ups and hospital visits. She has fibromyalgia and hypermobility - conditions causing constant pain and which lead to life often feeling like it lacks cohesion and order. They join us as silent partners in our relationship with each other, and our wider world."--Statement provided by artist.
