About this work
Description
Leaflet printed in black on pale orange paper, probably dating from the 1890s, advertising Fairilene nit killer. This could "be applied to the most delicate scalp... and never fails to cleanse the child's head of all parasites". The leaflet was probably produced by the manufacturer and the reverse printed with details of the "nearest agent" for the product. In this case Alfred Parker, pharmacist of Uttoxeter, with an advertisement for his 'Parker's Blood Mixture' which "strengthens brain and muscles, purifies the blood, removes pimples and eruptions, clears the skin... builds up the system... improves the appetite, tones up the nerves, and assists recovery from febrile and debilitating complaints". The front has a line illustration of a woman with a young girl at her side, a small boy playing with building blocks behind her and a baby playing with a rag doll to her left.
