About this work
Description
Starting with the highly publicised case of a dental patient in Florida who contracted AIDS from her dentist, the film examines the question of whether HIV tests should be compulsory for all health workers. Joan Bakewell interviews doctors and patients, uncovers a tangle of practical and moral issues and finds that the very language of the debate, involving the use of the phrase "'innocent' victim" - and the implication of an opposite description - is itself a source of contention.
