Description
Scenes of everyday life, archaeological digging and communal sports and recreation at Gebel (or Jebel) Moya, an archaeological site in the Sudan, excavated by Sir Henry Wellcome between 1911 and 1914 as a public works project. Includes scenes of Sir Henry seated watching the organised races and inspecting the excavations and consulting with archaeologists and officials.

The film master of this sequence was copied from the original 35mm nitrate negative in the 1970s. The nitrate negatives, as was often the case at the time, were then destroyed. The new material was copied to 35mm negative and positive acetate safety film. This is turning acetic (vinegar syndrome). The new elements created in 2009 which relate to the items shelfmarked 2151F 1-3 are on polyester safety film. They are 2151F1/3 is a FG (fine grain) dupe positive (from original negative supplied); 2151F2/3 is a FG (fine grain) dupe negative from new dupe positive [created in Step 1]; 2151F3/3 is a FG dupe negative the new dupe positive produced [created in Step 2]. Note; each reel has the same footage.
